On 7 May 2022 Animal Health Australia ran a lamb marking workshop in Southern New South Wales with 20 smallholders from the region, who wanted to develop some new skills.
After a general induction around OHS and the property’s biosecurity practices, the day got underway with handling exercise in the yards of moving and drafting ewes and lambs, a demonstration and participatory lamb marking practices session (ear tag application, vaccination, tail docking, and castration), a discussion about herd recording and the templates available, and finished up with a Q&A session.
The hands-on event was organised in response to high demand from industry and AHA is proud to be able to deliver in-person events like these to help members and industry develop their skills and knowledge.
AHA will also be releasing a mini video series demonstrating the lamb marking process from the event. These will be available on the Farm Biosecurity website when they become available.
