Nominations now open for the 2026 Australian Biosecurity Awards

Australia’s biosecurity system plays a critical role in protecting our people, environment, economy and way of life from pests and diseases. Each year, the Australian Biosecurity Awards recognise individuals, groups and organisations making a meaningful contribution to strengthening Australia’s biosecurity system.

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Australian Biosecurity Awards, and close 5 pm AEST Tuesday 16 June 2026. The awards provide an opportunity to recognise leadership, innovation and commitment to biosecurity across Australia.

The Australian Biosecurity Awards include nine categories:

  • Dr David Banks Biosecurity Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Dr Kim Ritman Award for Science and Innovation
  • First Nations Award for Excellence in Biosecurity
  • Industry
  • Government
  • Environmental Biosecurity
  • Community
  • Education
  • Farm Biosecurity Producer of the Year

The Farm Biosecurity Program is once again partnering with the Australian Government to sponsor the Farm Biosecurity Producer of the Year Award, jointly presented with Plant Health Australia (PHA) and Animal Health Australia (AHA).

This award recognises Australian primary producers and growers who demonstrate outstanding on‑farm biosecurity practices and leadership. By sharing their stories, the award promotes best practice and highlights the vital role producers play in preventing, detecting and managing biosecurity risks on farm.

The award is open to all forms of Australian farming, including:

  • large commercial operations
  • new and emerging niche industries
  • smaller and hobby‑level farms.

Nominees for the Farm Biosecurity Producer of the Year Award should demonstrate a strong understanding of the six essentials of farm biosecurity:

  • farm inputs
  • people, vehicles and equipment
  • production practices
  • feral animals and weeds
  • farm outputs
  • training, planning and record keeping.

Judges look for evidence that biosecurity practices are applied as best‑practice preventative measures, not only in response to specific threats. This may include biosecurity plans, records, procedures and examples of how nominees advocate for proactive biosecurity within their industry or community.

Nominate now

If you know an individual, group or organisation making a positive impact on Australia’s biosecurity, consider submitting a nomination.
